INTERVIEWER: Why should we fear Allah?
ADNAN OKTAR: Fearing Allah gives us passion, love and affection. I mean, the fear of Allah constitutes the whole foundation of love. For instance it ensures us to be honest, it prevents us telling lies, it makes us trustworthy,faithful and it makes us amenable to tribulation. These are the roots of passion and love which both grow from this root. Love cannot grow on a foundation in which good morals do not exist. Affection cannot develop.

ADNAN OKTAR: Allah says the following in the Qur’an concerning the Hell and other pains, I take shelter in Allah from the satan: “Why should Allah punish you if you are thankful and have faith?” In other words Almighty Allah says, “I don’t desire to inflict pain on you. This is not My purpose; My purpose is your comfort, relief, joy and happiness”. But, for this, the Hell is necessary, fear of Allah is necessary. Because without that fear of Allah, as you know people say “fear the one who does not fear Allah”. Surely we do not fear people, that is another matter; but this is a proverb used by the public which means people who do not fear Allah are dangerous and risky. On the other hand, no danger whatsoever comes from the one who fears Allah. Such a person is rational, perceptive, insightful and loving and this is the widsom behind the existence of Hell. There is no other purpose for it. But if we see this point through the perspective of ilm al- Ladun (secret knowledge, such as the knowledge of Divine Providence), its secret can be more easily understood. Allah is the Sultan of ilm al- Ladun; Allah is the highest above all; He is above all the sultans. Allah is infinite Wisdom and He possesses infinite secret knowledge in ilm al-Ladun. But anyone who knows and undertands a little of this secret knowledge also understands what Allah means there insha’Allah.
